As we get older, we learn from our experiences. With dating, we’ve had enough experiences (good and bad) to know what’s important to us and what we value. But do these experiences truly change how we approach looking for a partner? Let’s take a look at how age changes what women want in a man.
Using the words most often used on their dating profiles, we gain some insight into what women want in a man. As we saw with what men look for as they age, there are some slight differences for women too. One thing that never changes? The #1 thing women of all ages want is a man who is honest. Some of the other most common words across all ages included fun, laugh, humor, kind, and family. This means that, more than anything else, what women want in a man is someone who will be honest and have a great time with them. Just like men!
Another thing women had in common with men is that they value a loving partner more as they get older. For women in their 30s and 40s, loving was the 13th and 11th most popular word, respectively. Women in their 50s listed the word so frequently that it was their 9th most common word.
Just like men, women over 50 are also far more likely to include words like relationship, intelligent, and romantic than younger women. One result that’s different for women, however, is that women over 40 use the word gentleman to describe the type of man they’re looking for. For women in their 30s and younger, they valued other characteristics more.
Women over 50 were also more likely to include the word nice. While kind was common to women of all age groups, nice was specific to women over 50. Gents, it’s clearly something they’re keen on emphasizing, so be nice!
While men over 50 sought a partner who was active more than younger men, there’s a similar result with what women want in a man. Women over 40 are very interested in having a partner to travel with. The word was one of the most popular for women above 40, but it didn’t appear at all for women in their 30s and younger.
The takeaway? What women want in a man doesn’t change drastically with age. Women of all ages want a man who is honest, kind, family-oriented, funny, and who knows how to have a good time. As women get older, they begin valuing other some traits more than others though. They’re looking for the same type of man they were when they were in their 30s, but someone more loving and gentlemanly that they can travel with. Travel and active are words most popular only with people over 50, so maybe we’re looking for the same types of partners, but now we want someone to experience everything life has to offer.
